Udupi, Aug 2: Aati month that used to be spent in idleness without much agricultural activity by the agrarian community across the undivided Dakshina Kannada district a few decades ago is now being celebrated significantly by the social welfare and voluntary organizations, said Walter Nandalike, editor-in-chief of www.daijiworld.com.

He was speaking at the Aatida Goujida Tammana, a unique celebration of Tulunadu delicacies organized by Jaycees International, Kaup, near here on Saturday July 31.

Natives of Tulunadu working or settled abroad were hesitant to come back during Aati month in the past, but now they plan their visits to become part of Aati celebrations well in advance. The love for their culture is being acclaimed worldwide, he added.

Jaycees International zonal vice-president N G Sukumar, Jayceerette zonal co-ordinator Manjula Vishnu Prasad and sports and youth director Deepak Kumar Yermal were the chief guests.

Jaycees International former vice-president M Neelanand Naik elaborated on the significance of Aati month.

Jaycees programme director Uday G, past president Arun Shetty Padoor and Jayceerette president Sharadeshwari Gurme were also present.

Kaup Jaycees president Praveen Kumar Gurme welcomed the gathering. Secretary Shivanna Bayar proposed the vote of thanks.
