Mangalore, Aug 12: St Joseph College of Management, Business and Administrative Studies, was inaugurated at a function organized at the Centenary Memorial Hall in Jeppu here, on Thursday August 12.

Prof Nivedita Lobo was the master of ceremony for the programme.

Registrar (evaluation) and dean of commerce faculty, Mangalore University, Prof P S Yedapadithaya, formally inaugurated the college. In his inaugural address, he noted that this is the eighth institution being run by Catholic Board of Education (CBE). The St Joseph Education Institutions has been expanding its base and reaching more and more people through its educational institutions. He hailed the group for making education affordable and accessible even to the marginalized and poor sections of the society including destitutes.

He added that the new college will lay emphasis on imparting quality education apart from value-based higher education. He observed that BBM and B Com courses have been included, taking into consideration the employability factor.

Bishop of Mangalore, Dr Aloysius Paul D’ Souza, who presided over the function, said that most of the schools in the malnad region were started by the missionaries with the motive and purpose to carry on the mandate from Lord Jesus, who taught us to love people and lead them towards light, and educate the backward people to make them fit to live in the society.

He further said that quality, quantity and equity are the three goals of the college, which will teach the children how to live, and how to grow with values. He said he was sure that the college will transform the students into great citizens of the country.

Rector of St Joseph seminary, Fr Joseph Martis, inaugurated the college website, which gives exhaustive details about the college.

Principal of St Joseph College, Fr Eric Crasta, proposed the vote of thanks.

Secretary of Catholic Board of Education, Fr Wilson V D’Souza, and correspondent, Fr J B Crasta, were also present.

Father J.B. Crastra is a gentle and soft spoken person but with a positive mind. His has been a SUCCESS STORY all along. He has worked wonders in Kundapur. At St. Joseph's - He is the architect of the present venture. The workshop which was started by The Jesuit Fathers of Sacred memory over 124 years ago was going though a series of problems on account of recession in the title industry - machinery for which was being fabricated by SJIAW. At this juncture Father J.B. has taken a step in the right direction to convert the workshop into an educational institution. He has indeed the support and the blessings of Our Bishop who has a great regard for Father J.B. He has also the encouragement and all out help from the members of The Governing Board like John.L. D'Souza, Gilbert D'Souza and Felix Albuquerque.

It was indeed good to see Professor Yedapadithaya - registrar (evaluation) and dean of commerce faculty at his best when delivering the key note address. Professor Yedapadathaya is a person of high caliber and it was good to see him share his experience in London where he was doing his post doctoral studies when he narrated his experience at a Church. I was seated next to him prior to the function while having our tea and it was a pleasure to converse with him. It was good to hear Our Bishop - the president of the function delivering his message. Prof. Nevidita was at her best as a M.C.

St. Joseph College needs and deserves all attention and support.

So much of positive information on Educational related topics to hear about Mangalore in general and Jeppoo in particular is always fascinating for us. To have St.Joseph's College with focus on Business Administration is indeed a pride because its a walking distance from our dear home that we can visit during our retirement plan. In fact some of the students can visit us in batches and witness some of the audio-visual programs on Education in our IIPP Hall (without any cost) with a smile. The "QUALITY" of Education is the KEY for Mangalore because it is a changing and challenging environment in the fast moving world that Mangalore has to embrace. We are truly delighted with this information and you have our whole-hearted support in all your future pursuit of Educational needs on Business related topics from us at any time.

RIGHT TYPE of Education alone can free the Indian society of most of the evils, and not by organising rallies, movements processions etc, to gain selfish motives and popularity.

I also commend the Muslims of the coastal region who have emabarked on the project of educating the youth recently.

When higher education is getting expensive and beyond the reach of many, it is very commendable to know that this college is making education affordable and accessible even to the marginalized and poor sections of the society including destitutes.
