Mangalore Aug 13: National Institute of Technology - Karnataka, which is among the top technological institutes of India should stress on research and development, suggested Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa.

He was delivering his inaugural address at the programme held to mark the end of golden jubilee celebration of NIT - K  at the college auditorium on Friday August 13. The institution should prepare itself to create more success stories by contributing successful engineers, who will help develop industries thereby development of nation. The institute like the man behind its conception, statesman and architect of moden Dakshina Kannada U Srinivas Mallya has given to the society great engineers and should continue the tradition, he added.

Statign that global investors' meet was a success with state signing 352 memorandum of understanding, CM elaborated that investment on steel sector has been Rs 2,21,244 crore, cement industry Rs 36,991 core and power sector Rs 25,214 crore among others. The employment avenues for eligible students too has widened, he said.

Barack Obama is worried about the pace that India has been witnessing development in the field of Information technology, Biotechnology and medicine. He is also assisted by Indians in his administration. India is proud to create such gems who can lead the nation towards development, CM said.

On the occasion, CM released the post cover with picture of NIT - K building etched on it and brought out by Indian postal department. He also inaugurated the new hostel building.

Home minister Dr V S Ascharya, guest of honour at the programme said that the long-pending demand of college renovation has been fulfilled during the BJP's term. The whole of the nation is looking up to Karnataka for its quality education institutes. The government has also spent Rs 75 crore to start a research and development institute at Muddenahalli, the birth place of Sir M Visvesvaraya.

District in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar said that I have the responsibility of developing the district and NIT - K is responsible for the world looking up to our district.

Board of Governors, NIT - K Suratkal  chairman Dr Goverdhan Mehta presided. NIT - K director Sandeep Sancheti, police commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnic and Coastal Development Authority chairman B Nagaraj Shetty were also present.

    I really feel proud that the great institution has completed Golden Jubilee year.

    I was the fortunate one to have educated from this institution. This institution not only produces the good engineer but also imparts the confidence in him to be successful in giving the best to the industry.

    This is the only institution in India which presents silver ring to all the outgoing students.
