Kundapur: Harassed Girl Jumps into Well

Kundapur, Aug 18: In an incident that occurred at Hanabinamane in Ampar village in the taluk, a girl jumped into a well and lost her life, having been unable to bear the harassment of a man. Reportedly, the youth in question repeatedly called her father over mobile phone, demanding that the girl be given to him in marriage.

In a complaint filed in Shankarnarayana police station, Ganapati Shetty, father of Pushpavati (19),who jumped into a well and lost her life, said that a person named Satyanarayana used to call him over his mobile phone frequently, pestering him to conduct Pushpavati’s marriage with the former. As the girl and her family were not agreeable, he had threatened them with dire consequences, Shetty alleged in the complaint.

Ganapati Shetty also said that Pushpavati, feeling harassed, and having been disinclined to marry Satyanarayana, committed suicide by jumping into the well of Anand Shetty, while returning after visiting a temple in Shankarnarayana. The policemen have registered a case. Investigations are on.
