Puttur, Sep 6: A case against the police personnel, relating to an incident in which the policemen have seized two trucks and their documents on the allegation of illegal transportation of sand, was filed in the local court. The complainant has stated that the policemen were not in order in seizing the vehicles and keeping the trucks with them, without bothering to file first information report.

Taking cognizance of the petition, the court appointed a local advocate, K Devanand, as search officer. The advocate, who checked the facts, reported back, saying that the policemen had illegally detained the vehicles referred in the complaint, in the compound of rural police station here.

The case pertains to the confiscation of two trucks owned by Bapakunhi on the charges of  transporting sand illegally, by the officials of the mines and geology department on August 23. The lorry owner had issued lawyers’ notice on the policemen, for not serving on him any notice about the seizure and not filing any cases against him.

On September 4, a fresh application was filed in the court, seeking release of the trucks immediately, as the action of the policemen in retaining the vehicles with them illegally has been causing losses to their owner. This case is expected to come up for hearing shortly.
