My Eyes Went Moist at Standing Ovation: Amitabh Bachchan

New Delhi, Oct 23 (IANS): Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan said his eyes went moist when the audience gave him a standing ovation as walked on the stage to receive the best actor award for his performance in "Paa", his fourth National Award.

"A sense of great pride. The President of India presenting award for Best Actor for "Paa". Eyes moist as the audience gives a standing ovation. Which in formal functions is an abnormality. The president whispers to me 'I have seen your film and loved it'. I gave an embarrassed laugh," Amitabh wrote on his blog bigb.bigadda.com.

"Thank you India for this national recognition," he added.

The actor was honoured with the award for his performance as a 13-year-old progeria patient in R. Balakrishna's "Paa". The film also won the Best Feature Film award and Bachchan said he felt proud watching son Abhishek walking up the stage to collect the award at the 57th National awards ceremony held here Friday.

"Felt a sense of pride and happiness to see Abhishek walk up to the president for his award as producer for 'Paa'," he said

"But really .. a wonderful moment for the family - Jaya, Aishwarya, Niky (son-in-law Nikhil Nanda) and Shweta (daughter) , all in the audience, cheering and applauding and feeling pride and passion for the moment," he added.

The family later celebrated the double whammy at Shweta's house.

He wrote: "Later all collecting at Shweta's elegantly decorated home for dinner - Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Raju Hirani, Balki, Arundhati, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Venki, Swanand (Kirkire) and the irrepressible Suhel Seth … a lovely evening with the kids and samdhis Ritu and Rajan."
