Puttur, Oct 30: The civil court here has ordered for the attachment of a Mahindra Bolero vehicle, furniture and computers belonging to the office of the assistant commissioner here, relating to a land acquisition case. The office of the assistant commissioner has been charged with not abiding by the court decree to pay justified compensation to land acquired for setting up National Cashew Research Centre in Kemminje village in the taluk.

The local assistant commissioner’s office had acquired 4.05 acres of land in Kemminje village, belonging to Ummakke and others, for setting up the above centre. The government had offered compensation at the rate of Rs 35,000 per acre of land so acquired, in 1990.

Those who lost their lands, approached the civil court here, complaining that the compensation offered to them was meagre. After considering all the issues, the court, through a decree dated April 21, 2009, ordered for payment of compensation at the rate of three lac rupees per acre. The sub-divisional officer here was ordered to deposit the decreed amount within three months. However, the office continues to shirk from depositing the amount, citing various reasons.

The decree holders then filed execution petition in the court. The officials failed to remit the amount even after a notice was served on them. As such, judge of the court, P T Kattimani, has issued an order, attaching the vehicle, furniture and computers as above.
