Mangalore, Oct 30: Karnataka Nritya Kala Parishad (KNKP) in association with Sridevi Nritya Kendra organized a two-day Nritya Sammelana titled ‘Past, Present and Future of Classical Dance in Karnataka’ at SDM College auditorium here on Saturday Octorber 30. The convention will also continue on Sunday October 31.

After inaugurating the convention, Sri Laxminarayana Asranna, chief priest of Kateek Durgaparameshwari Temple said that the cultural flavour in human mind will purify the heart. Dance is an art which
converts human thoughts into divinity. He added that the dance skill is gifted by the god only to some individuals.

Dr Sunil Kothari, eminent art historian and critic in his keynote address pointed out that dance will cherish our spirit in the body. The event was inaugurated through dance performance by the students of Sarasa College of Fine Arts.

The stage programme was followed by presentations on dance forms prevalent in the state before the advent of the Tanjore Quartet. Resource person from Bangalore, dance guru Lalitha Srinivasan
presented the Suladi tradition while Radhika Nandakumar of Mysore performed Goundali Nritya. Soundarya Srivatsa performed a classical dance.

Nritya guru Jayalaxmi Alva presided. Lalitha Srinivasan, also the president of KNKP welcomed the gathering. Raghunath Shet and Aarathi Shetty, director, Sri Devi Nritya Kendra among others were present.
