Dharwad, Nov 1: The 30th death anniversary of Kannada’s legendary poet Da Ra Bendre was held at Srajana open-air theatre by Dr Da Ra Bendre National Memorial Trust, exhibiting many virtues of Bendre, recently.

Jayant Kaikini poet and writer narrated the story of the great poet Bendre. He also spoke about Bendre's association with his father Gourish Kaikini in moulding his personality. His studies that he had
conducted on Bendre for a TV serial added much flavour to his narration.

‘Once, Bendre accompanied his son to a family, with the hope of finding a suitable bride. The bride arrived at the scene when both families were seated in the drawing room.  Bendre insisted her to sing a song. When she started to sing, Bendre jokingly asked his son to join her in singing. Both of them sang the devotional song ‘Raghupati Raghava Rajaram…’  this is how Jayant narrated the story about the legendary poet.

Bendre had special love for nature which is depicted in his poetry, added Jayant. A large number of Bendre’s well wishers and budding writers attended the programme.
