Bantwal, Nov 1: ‘We should be committed to the cause of preservation of Kannada and its distinct culture, besides protecting the land of Karnataka,’ said Bantwal taluk panchayat president M Babu.
 
M Babu was speaking during the Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations held at open-air theatre in B C Road here on Monday November 1.

Dr Girish Bhat Ajekkal, lecturer of Government First Grade College, emphasized the contributions of Kannada poets and litterateurs towards Kannada. He also urged the frequent organization of awareness programmes on Kannada so as to create a positive attitude about being a Kannadiga.
 
Bantwal town councilor B Dinesh Bhandary, the chief guest, said that the struggle of Kannadigas to promote Kannada culture and the state should inspire the student community.
 
The programme was organized by taluk Kannada Rajyotsava celebration committee. Tahsildar Ravichandra Nayak hoisted the national flag on the occasion.
 
The taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat president B Tammayya, litterateur Haji J Abdul Khader, taluk panchayat member Sarapady Subbanna Shetty, council members Iqbal Goodinabali and Bhaskar Tailor were present on the dais. The block education officer Sudhakar K, municipal chief officer Jattanna and CDPO Usman were also present.
 
Taluk panchayat, chief executive officer Vasant Raj Shetty welcomed the gathering. Plantations assistant director Sanjeev Nayak proposed the vote of thanks. Manju Vittal compered the programme.
 
A march-past by the police personnel, students and home-guards marked the beginning of celebrations.
