Beltangady, Nov 3: Two lovers ended their lives by consuming poison at a place near Hosangady in the taluk, on Tuesday November 2. They have been identified as Harish (22), son of Jinnu Mogera from Hedme in Badekody village, and Lakshmi (24), daughter of Sesappa from Gidigere House in Kodemoole, Kateel. They committed suicide in an auto rickshaw that was found parked in a forest region about a km away from the boy’s house.

Reportedly, the two, who are related to each other, loved each other since sometime, and this fact had not come to the knowledge any of the family members or close ones. The relatives came to know about their love affair, only after their death.

While the boy died immediately after consuming poison in the early hours on Tuesday, the girl spent time with his body till dawn, before being noticed by a passer-by, and then got admitted into the hospital. She breathed her last about an hour after being referred to the hospital.

Harish, who was gentle by nature, owned an auto rickshaw and had some agricultural fields. He is survived by three brothers and a younger sister. Lakshmi, whose father is a government employee, worked as an honorary teacher in the government higher primary school in Badekody after completing D Ed course. Lakshmi recently lost her job, after a permanent teacher was posted to the school.

In a suicide note left behind, Lakshmi said that the two decided to end their lives, as she does not have a job, and that they did not think that being relatives, they would be allowed by the family to marry each other.

A case was registered in Venur police station. Post mortem was conducted in Moodbidri hospital. Investigation is on.
