Mangalore, Nov 4: A gang of local youth injured a youth in Krishnapura seventh block near Suratkal on Tuesday November 2. The gang was incensed at the fact that the youth in question, Imran (28), and his friends, refused to play cricket during the prayer time of the local mosque. Imran, who was injured in his arm, is recovering in a hospital.

A few youth including Imran, Imtiaz, Asif and Faizal, were playing cricket in Katipalla junior college ground on Tuesday evening. They stopped playing, after hearing the ‘Baang (prayer call from mosque’. Dileep alias Dileepa, Salam alias Hassan Salam and others reportedly came to the ground and asked Imran to bowl to them, to be able to play for some time. Imran refused, saying that it was prayer time.

Angered by this response, the accused beat up Imtiaz. Imran, who tried to intervene, was stabbed in the arm by Salam, a complaint registered with Suratkal police station claimed. Salam is absconding. A case has been registered in Suratkal police station in this respect.
