Moodbidri, Nov 3: ‘Swaroopa – 2010’, a three-day inter-collegiate cultural fest, under Rajeev Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) was inaugurated at Swaraj Maidan in Vidhyagiri, Alvas College campus, on Tuesday November 2.

RGUHS vice-chancellor Dr Ramanand Shetty inaugurated the event in the Tulunadu tradition, here on Tuesday evening. Alvas Education Foundation chairman Dr M Mohan Alva inaugurated the programme by rhythmically beating the traditional drums.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Shetty said that if 55 percent of the country’s youth are provided adequate education, they would emerge as the greatest asset of the nation. He also commended Dr Alva for creating a favourable environment for the youth to exhibit their inherent talents.

MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik said that he had realized the importance of every moment in life by viewing ‘Alvas Nudi Siri’. Dr Alva urged the students to be well-versed in cultural aspects. He said that they should not pursue it as a fashion and brilliant students can easily muster the cultural traits just as they do tough subjects.

RGUHS senate members Dr Abhilash and Irene D’Souza, deputy chancellor Dr Vasant Shetty, and finance officer Somashekar Shetty were present on the dais. Deepa Kottari compered the programme.

Alvas College cultural troupe staged a Yakshagana play in Tenkutittu style to thundering applause. The cultural troupes from over 100 colleges are participating in ‘Swaroopa – 2010’.
