Moodbidri, Nov 5: A felicitation function was organized at the local court hall on behalf of the local unit of  Bar Association, to felicitate advocate, Padma Prasad Hegde from Mangalore, for his unanimous election as the vice president of Karnataka State Bar Council, and also for coming out with flying colours in the LLM examination by securing first rank recently.

Speaking on the occasion, Hegde said that not filling up of vacancies in various courts and not providing the courts with needed facilities have resulted in the delayed delivery of justice. He called upon the advocates’ community to come together and put up a united fight to find a permanent solution to these nagging problems. “Enacting new laws, creating of new courts and setting up of village level courts will not solve the problem unless vacant posts are filled and proper facilities are provided to courts,” he asserted.

Hegde said that the state Bar Council is committed to address the problems faced by the lawyers. “Karnataka Bar Council will bring pressure for the implementation of an insurance scheme for lawyers, removal of obstacles in payment of monthly stipends to junior lawyers, and to sanction grants to Advocates Welfare Fund. We will also try to implement the e-library concept in all the courts at a cost of Rs 15 crore,” he declared.

On behalf of the lawyers, Sharat Shetty, Chetan Kumar Shetty, and Manoj Shenoy, addressed the gathering. Association vice president, K R Pandit, in his introductory address, hailed P P Hegde for being a role model to prove that a person can achieve high goals, if he is ready to work hard to earn education and intelligence and then hone his skills through experience and capability.

Bar Association’s local unit president, M S Kotian, presided. Secretary of the association, Shantiprasad Hegde, was present. Manoj Shenoy proposed vote of thanks. Shweta Jain compered the programme.
