Kannada Classes for Railway Staff at Mangalore Railway Station

Mangalore, Nov 7: A senior officer of railway department has decided to conduct Kannada language classes for non-Kannada speaking railway staff of Mangalore Railway Station.

The move has been initiated to help Kannada speaking passengers. S K Raina, the Palghat Division Railway Manager of Southern Railway said that all non-Kannadiga railway staff working at Mangalore Central Railway Station can avail the benefit of the Kannada classes.

A delegation of Mangalore Railway Development Action Committee headed by P V Mohan and Denis D’Silva, member, Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee, that met Raina in Palghat had demanded him to conduct such classes for the benefit of both staff and passengers.

    In 1957, just 1 year after its formation, A.P. state forced a law according to which all the central govt. jobs in A.P. were reserved for native people of A.P. Karnataka was formed simultaneously with A.P. Till date, our political leaders didn't learn from their A.P. counterparts.

    The Mangalore division should be transferred to Southwestern ralway zone. All the non-Kannada staff of Southwestern ralway zone should learn Kannada in the first place.

    All the recruitments hereafter in Southwestern ralway zone should go to Kannadigas only regardless of the cadre. The Kannadiga staff in other railway zones may also be given an opportunity to come back to southwestern railway zone.

    Good Dear Ashok, I agree with you. The Central Government should take immediate steps to recruit Qualified Service oriented competent Local people. The Old Saying goes - Hitala Gida maddalla

    It would be far appriciated if they had planed to teach Tulu and Konkani as more then 70 % are non kannadigas in our beautiful dk and udupi. Again speaking in kannda will be a burden for senior peoples. As they may find it difficult to get proper information . Please promote local language for these benefit of local people .

    This is a step in the right direction. Many a time, passengers are confronted with staff who refuse to converse in Kannada and talk in Malayalam instead. It is high time, this nonsense is put to an end.They ought to be reminded we are in Karnataka, not Kerala. I have also seen these people in the petrol stations and they just don't care, forget about being apologetic about it. They must be made to realise that when they seek employment in any state,especially a govt job,they've to learn the native language of that state, instead of trying to teach us Malayalam. I suggest, those who want a job here must be given it only after they have demonstrated the ability to speak the kannada language in our state.

    Good one but instead of teaching kannada please recruit mangalorean or kannadiga staffs its far better than what step you are taken now. Any way all the best
