Brahmavar, Nov 21: Seven members of a single family residing in Kajralli Colony in Saibrakatte in the tlauk had stoutly defied efforts made over a period of time to convince them to get vaccinated because of their doubts about its aftereffects.
Udupi district deputy commissioner Kurma Rao visited the family on Saturday November 20 and succeeded in convincing them to take the vaccination.
The family believed that vaccination endangers their lives. They also had nursed a grouse over the fact that the administration and the fellow villagers had shown scornful attitude towards them when one of the family members had died in the initial stages after Covid-19 began to spread. Therefore in spite of the best efforts of the ASHA workers, doctors, and local people's representatives, they had not agreed to get vaccinated. On Saturday, the DC who visited Saibrakatte primary health centre, learnt about this family and visited their residence.
After giving a patient hearing to the problems and feelings of the family, the DC said he understands their pains and promised that the district administration will strongly stand by them in case of any problems. He said that their problems will be addressed in phases and requested them to relent relating to vaccination. The family then agreed to get vaccinated one by one.
When the family members revealed that they have not got the ration items for the last three months, the deputy commissioner ordered to arrange for the same immediately.
Tahsildar, Rajashekhara Murthy, Kota revenue inspector, Raju, Laxminarayn Bhat, village accountant Sharat Shetty, medical officer, Dr Jayasheel Achar, ASHA and health workers were present.
