Udupi: ZP, TP, Elections - 128 Withdraw Nominations on Last Day

Udupi, Dec 24: The last date for withdrawal of nominations for the ensuing taluk panchayat (TP) and zilla panchayat (ZP) elections happened to be Thursday December 23. After 34 candidates, who had filed their nomination papers for ZP election, and 94 TP candidates, withdrew their nominations on Thursday, 74 ZP and 238 TP candidates remained in the fray.

74 candidates will be vying with each other to get 34 ZP seats, while 238 candidates will fight it out for 95 taluk  panchayat seats.

In the zilla panchayat, 25 candidates each from the Congress and BJP have been pitted against each other, while JDS has fielded 12 candidates. SDPI (4), CPM (1) and BSP (1) are also in the fray.
