Canada, Mar 21: A golden chapter in the history of Konkani spiritual music has been unfolded and the much-awaited Konkani Lenten spiritual hymn ‘Deva Dayall’ (God of Mercy) made in Canada under the recently created banner ‘Do Re Mi Fa Creations’ was released on YouTube on Sunday March 20.

Archbishop Rt Rev Dr Albert D’Souza, the visiting Archbishop Emeritus of Agra diocese in India, released the Lenten special video to the world. This is the second video under the banner ‘Do Re Mi Fa’ Creations after A fascinating musical song ‘Novo Bhorvoso’ of bringing new hope to the whole of mankind released on December 19, 2021, which was the first-of-its-kind in the country of Canada. It is the hard work and vision realized of the Konkani by the Mangalurean Konkani people living in Canada but for the world.

‘Deva Dayall’ is a Konkani Lenten Spiritual Song presented from Canada dedicated to ‘The Konkani Priest of Canada’ the late Fr Edwin D’Souza who passed away on February 19. Fr Edwin played a vital role in promoting the Konkani language, art and culture in Canada. He was the spiritual director of the Mangalorean Association of Canada (MAC) for almost 2 decades. Being the first spiritual director of MAC, he encouraged the association to start their first-ever spiritual programmes in Konkani in Canada like the Monti Fest celebration, Konkani Masses every month, Stations of the Cross and spiritual retreat during the holy season of Lent. Also, he was instrumental in inviting bishops of Toronto Rt Rev John Bossinov and Rt Rev William McGrattan for the Monti Fest celebrations organized by MAC. Incidentally, this video was released during the celebration of his Month’s Mind Mass celebrated by his younger brother Archbishop Emeritus Albert D’Souza.

Canada’s Konkani music maestro Ashith Glen Pinto has carried out the harmony, music programming, audio recording and mixing for this music album. His recent arrival to the beautiful shores of Canada has given new inspiration to many Konkani-speaking people, especially Konkani singers living in Canada. A versatile musician of Konkani, worked tirelessly to furnish a new and modern dimension to the Konkani music in Mangaluru. He was instrumental to organize and present, one of its kind marathons and successful singing competition, ‘Mhozo Thallo Gaithalo’ involving a multitude of Konkani singers of the Coastal Karnataka region and then, also to the Gulf countries. He had developed the concept of DeReMeFa on Daijiworld TC 24x7 and planned the full show presentation. ‘Deva Dayall’ is a unique music composition to give a devotional musical experience that is crafted by Ashith.

Alwyn Noronha a well-known personality in the field of Mangaluru’s Konkani music field has given great support for this song. The recording has been done at Studio Ten04, Toronto. Nicole D’Mello of Nicole D’Mello photography, Toronto has done very creative cinematography for this video album.

As mentioned earlier, well-known singers based in Canada Konkani’s nightingale Babita Pinto and multi-faceted par-excellence and renowned singer Manohar Pais have rendered their beautiful voices to this magical song.

Daijiworld TV 24x7, Daijiworld.com, Radio Daijiworld and Veez Konkani Weekly are the official media partners for ‘Deva Dayall’.
