Bengaluru, Mar 24: The Education Department and the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports will work in close coordination to ensure sports is integrated under the National Education Policy 2020, Primary and Secondary Education Minister BC Nagesh said on Thursday, March 24.

The minister held a meeting with officials of both Education Department and the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports including its minister K C Narayana Gowda and decided to fully utilise the human resources available with the government for the development of Sports.

Nagesh emphasised the need for closer and better coordination with the Education and Sports Departments as the NEP gives lot of importance for sports and said all the stadiums available in the taluk headquarters in the State must be fully utilised to encourage students to take part in sports activities.

As the Sports Department and Taluk administrations were busy with their own work and responsibilities, Nagesh said the sports activities and encouragement to youth was not given adequate attention and importance. In view of this, it is necessary to avail the services of the physical education teachers in the schools so as to give sufficient attention to sports.

“It is important to identify talented students and give them sufficient encouragement, training and support,’’ the minister said.

Nagesh said the Sports Minister Narayan Gowda has sought the assistance and help of the Education Department for better coordination with his department to enable talented students to get training and other encouragement to facilitate their participation in national and even international sporting events.

Additional Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh, Education Department Principal Secretary Selva Kumar and other senior officials attended the meeting.
