Bengaluru, Apr 6: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Chief DK Shivakumar on Wednesday asserted that the party was completely united and said there were no factions within the party.
"We are all members of the Congress family. I happen to be president of State Unit but I am also a worker. All of us work together," he said talking to media persons in Hassan on Wednesday.
Shivakumar participated in the party’s membership enrolment campaign in Hassan and later told reporters that the Congress will start the process of identifying candidates for the ensuing assembly polls in the State.
"We will consult all district presidents and key leaders before selecting candidates. Victory alone is the yardstick," he said.
To a question on the ruling BJP’s plans to advance assembly polls to coincide with elections in Gujarat, the KPCC Chief said: "It is the ruling party’s prerogative. We are ready to face elections whenever they are held. Let them announce the elections dates tomorrow itself. We are ready."
Shivakumar said the Congress party will fight the elections on the problems faced by the people, especially price rise of essential commodities, unemployment and other problems pertaining to day-to-day life of citizens.
The party will also oppose the unscientific and polarizing politics of BJP, which has no other issues except targeting the minority community and its narrow Hindutva agenda, he said.
The KPCC Chief said the party’s membership enrolment drive was a spectacular success and claimed that 63 lakh members have already been enrolment. The number will go higher. "We are gearing up for the organizational elections, he added.
