All India Football Federation Banned by FIFA

Aug 31 (PR): The FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, which was scheduled to be held in India, in October had got a lot of people excited. People were looking forward to the event, as it would have been the first ever FIFA Women's World Cup to be held in India.

If things had been on schedule, this event would have taken place in 2020, but thanks to the pandemic, it was cancelled. FIFA then announced that India would be the hosts for the next event in 2022 (the U-17 World Cup is a biennial event). Aficionados had already decided that they would place their bets on https://www.telecomasia.net/sports-betting/bonuses/bet365/ for the matches, because they offer amazing bonuses for sports betting events.

But all such hopes were squashed, when FIFA banned the apex body for football in India, All India Football Federation. This incident came as a shock to all the football aficionados of the country, who had been looking forward to their country hosting such an important sporting event. The tickets had even been put on sale, which puts the organisation in a messy situation which needs immediate cleaning up. So what happened that FIFA had to take such a drastic action?

FIFA cited that the reason for this huge step was "undue influence from third parties". While this might be difficult to comprehend- since it's a sports association and not a brokerage- it is essentially true. A lot has been going on for the top administrative body for football in India, and the ban is a result of all that has been happening behind the scenes, within the organisation.

The AIFF was being led by its president Praful Patel, who was also a member of FIFA. But Praful Patel's tenure was over, and he had still not given up his post till 2022 May. The pandemic delayed the elections, which was further affected by the court case for amendments to the AIFF constitution. But the Supreme Court stepped on 18th May, and removed him from his post. Instead, they appointed a Committee of Administrators who would look over the functioning of the body.

Now this might seem simple enough, but according to the FIFA rulebook, the Committee of Administrators is a perfect example of third party involvement, because the head of the association lost their power, and so a third-party committee had to be set up to look into the affairs.

The ban means that participation for any and all international football events would be out of question for the Indian team. The Gokulam Kerala Women's team might be unable to participate in the AFC Cup. The same fate awaits other teams as well.

But thankfully, FIFA remarked that they are still in contact with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, so maybe matters can still be reversed. FIFA has demanded two things for the reversal of the ban: the dissolvement of the Committee of Administrators, and the AIFF taking back all their duties.
