Udupi, Jul 23: The district administration has observed that private buses and school vehicles transporting the public and students are carrying more passengers than their seating capacity and are being driven at speeds exceeding the prescribed limits. This poses a risk of accidents. To ensure the safety of students and passengers traveling on these buses, the district commissioner, Dr K Vidyakumari, has issued the following guidelines to private bus owners and school principals with school vehicles:
- Buses must have a valid fitness certificate and insurance certificate, and should not emit excessive smoke beyond permissible limits.
- Students and passengers should not be allowed to travel in numbers exceeding the registered seating capacity.
- Buses should not be driven at speeds exceeding the prescribed speed limits. The speed limit must be strictly followed.
- Only experienced drivers should be appointed to drive the buses, and road safety rules must be strictly adhered to.
The announcement emphasized the importance of compliance with these guidelines to ensure the safety of all commuters.
