Belagavi, Apr 16: The second phase of the BJP's Janakrosh Yatra began in Belagavi on Wednesday, with senior party leaders launching a sharp attack on the Congress-led state government. Accusing the government of corruption, price hikes, and appeasement politics, the BJP asserted that the ruling Congress will be ousted from power in 2028.
Speaking at a public meeting, former chief minister and MP Jagadish Shettar said that growing public discontent was clearly visible across the state.

“The Congress government has failed on every front. People are angry, and the BJP will certainly return to power in 2028. This is a government mired in corruption,” he alleged.
Taking a jibe at chief minister Siddaramaiah, Shettar said the CM was at the twilight of his political career while deputy chief minister D K Shivakumar was “waiting in the wings.”
“The chief minister must be wondering whether he’ll step down in November or December,” he said, mocking the leadership dynamics within the Congress.
Shettar also cited allegations made by a writer that there was corruption involved in conferring an award named after Dr B R Ambedkar, calling it shameful.
Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, took strong exception to CM Siddaramaiah’s recent claim that Savarkar had defeated Ambedkar in an election.
“If the chief minister can prove that Savarkar defeated Ambedkar, I will resign from my post today,” he challenged, urging Siddaramaiah to step down if unable to back his claim.
He also accused minister Priyank Kharge of feeding the CM false information and sarcastically said that AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge was “pulling the strings.”
“You’ve held every major post in the Congress. There’s nothing more left. Why resort to such falsehoods just to cling to power?” Narayanaswamy said, directing his remarks at the chief minister.
The BJP's Janakrosh Yatra has been organised to highlight issues such as inflation, rising fuel prices, alleged misuse of funds, and the government’s decision to provide quota for Muslims in public tenders.
