Puttur: Gold, cash worth Rs 15.8 lac stolen from police personnel’s residence

Puttur, May 16: Thieves broke into the house of Karnataka State Reserve Police head constable Karunakara Gowda at Padmunja Gadakodi and decamped with gold ornaments and cash worth Rs 15.80 lac on the night of May 14.

Karunakara Gowda, who is serving in the intelligence wing of the Karnataka State Reserve Police in Hassan district, was alone at his ancestral house in Padmunja village at the time of the incident. His wife, who is employed in another town, stays there along with their children.

Police said his wife had kept the gold ornaments in a cupboard in her room, locked it, and had taken the key with her.

On Thursday night, Karunakara Gowda, who was alone at home, watched an IPL match and went to sleep. When he woke up the next morning, he found that the lock of the cupboard inside the room had been broken. Thieves had stolen 12.5 sovereigns of gold ornaments worth Rs 14 lac, diamond ornaments worth Rs 80,000, and cash amounting to Rs 1 lac from the cupboard.

A dog squad and fingerprint experts visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

Beltangady DySP Rohini, station officer Kaushik B C, and Beltangady circle inspector Ravi B S visited the scene and are investigating the case.
