London, Aug 3: Kafeel Ahmed, the man who drove a burning jeep into the Glasgow Airport on June 30, is dead.

The 27-year-old from Bangalore, India, had suffered 90 per cent burns after his jeep struck the terminal and burst into flames.

Kafeel was being kept under armed guard in the specialist burns unit at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where he was transferred from the Royal Alexandra Hospital, in Paisley.

He was also involved in parking two cars loaded with bombs in The Haymarket London just two days before the failed Glasgow airport attack. The bombs failed to go off.

Identity confusion

For several days after the failed Glasgow Airport attack, there was confusion about his identity, with contradictory reports in the media.

But it was Kafeel's mother who reportedly identified him from this CCTV footage of the attack.

Bilal Abdullah, a doctor from Iraq, was with Kafeel in the burning jeep but he did not suffer any serious injuries.

Kafeel did Masters in Aeronautical Engineering, Belfast, finishing PhD in aerodynamics at Anglia Ruskin University, UK.

He was described by those who knew him as polite and gentle and even as a brilliant student.

Sabeel's involvement

Kafeel's brother Sabeel Ahmed is also in police custody in Britain. He has been charged with knowing every detail of the plot but not informing the police. So how did Sabeel, a doctor from Bangalore know of his brotherl's involvement?

Sabeel was sent a text message by Kafeel after the car bombs were planted in London, but before the attack on Glasgow Airport.

The message contained the password for an internet email account.

Inside the email account was a folder containing Kafeel's last will and testament and instructions on what to say to the police.

The instructions told Sabeel to say Kafeel was working on a project about global warming and was on holiday in Iceland and keep saying that to anyone who asked about him.

I really hoped that this guy could recover and enlighten us as to why the rest of us are stupid. Luckly or unlucky he decided to try his secret global warming suicide elsewhere. Bangalore police better get busy and honestly try to find out if there are others waiting for an opportune moment to wreak havoc.

A young boy with such a good academic track record, getting into this type of fundamentalisim on the plea that such act is "Act of God" requires to be cleared by Godmen or such other persons acceptable to the Society or respected by the Society that such Acts are not Accepted by God and that these leads to destruction and loss of innocent life and nothing comes out of that.

Through this column I request responsible persons acceptable to the Society/Community to lead such youths who have gone astray to bring them back to main path of progress and make available his/her qualities to the Society at Large.
