Bangalore, Jan 23: Those who feared another harrowing day on the road and at home, expecting taxis and trucks to be on strike for the third day, can heave a sigh of relief. The strike was called off on Tuesday with the transport department sparing old commercial vehicles from installing speed governors.
The losses over the last two days have been estimated at Rs 70 crore. The transport department has kept the matter in abeyance, urging the Centre to create a set of norms.
Principal secretary, transport, D Thangaraju, has urged the Centre to consider implementation of Rule 118 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules Act, 1989, throughout the country from an appointed date.
