Mangalore Apr 18: Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) survey team had tough time to convince Polali residents for the proposed construction of dam to facilitate the project.

Five-member team led by Shivaguru and Selvaraj had arrived to survey the village.  They initially said that they had come from the World Bank. But once villagers learnt that they were from MSEZ, the latter had to face the wrath of locals.

Angered residents cautioned the officials to go back and never try to survey the area again and if it happens again villagers are not responsible for the future consequences.

On receiving the information MSEZ CEO A G Pai rushed to the spot.  Meanwhile former minister Nagaraja Shetty had joined the protestors he had also cautioned the surveyors not to precede further with the proposed project.

Later A G Pai assured that they will not proceed further with the proposed project in the region if it causes inconveniences to the locals.

Villagers worried about the Jalakada Katte which would be submerged along with other low lying areas if the project is implemented. Villagers are performing prayer at Polali Rajarajeswari temple to seek the divine intervention to relieve from the proposed project.

I still don't understand why MSEZ has not yet de-commissioned. Never try to convert the natural resources and agricultural land into useless buildings which can't grow food to fed ever increasing population of India. Govt. has already banned export of food grains. Greedy politcians and Mr. Pai should have learnt a lesson from this disaster. EVERYONE SHOULD NOW START SAZS (SPECIAL AGRICULTURAL ZONES). It is the most URGENT and EMERGENCY project. Don't blindly FOLLOW THE CAPITALIST WEST .

"if it causes inconveniences to the locals" ? Who is to decide that it is inconvenience to locals? The locals or MSEZ officials ?? Such statements are all an eye wash to buy time. They will call a meeting draw false minutes and place a Minutes Report stating that in the meeting locals have agreed for the project. Just wait for that.
