Mangalore, Jun 4: Diocesans must be commended for their genuine concern for the under privileged brethren and for giving them an opportunity to be heard, said Melvyn P Noronha, president of Catholic Lawyers Guild, recently.
Speaking at the inaugural function of ‘Sangaat’, a platform for the oppressed and downtrodden to have their voices heard, he exhorted people in the community to help those in difficulty.
The event was organized by the Career Advanced Programme (CAP) cell of the Mangalore diocese at the Canara Organization for Development and Peace (CODP) auditorium in the city.
Noronha said that only the upliftment of the victimized brethren would help the community to move ahead progressively in the future.
Presiding over the meet, Fr Onil D'Souza, informed the gathering of the reasons that inspired the setting up of ‘Sangaat’. He emphasized the plight of community brethren who were distressed over title deeds, and lack of information on minority benefits. He added that ‘Sangaat’ would cater to their needs.
Five retired government officers are part of ‘Sangaat’ and will be available daily from 4 pm to 7 pm at CODP office. Those in need mey contact them to fix an appointment.
