Puttur, Jun 29:
A huge tree located beside the Puttur–Sullia state highway at Murkumpady, was uprooted on the morning of Saturday, June 28, causing a roadblock to passing vehicles.

The task of chopping off the branches and clearing the trunk was in progress well past Saturday afternoon.  Owing to this roadblock, the traffic plying to Mysore, Madikeri and Sullia, is forced to take the detour reach Puttur. Residents of Kumbra, Bellare, and other rural areas were inconvenienced in their efforts to reach the city as part of their daily routine.

Electricity supply was also disrupted since the huge tree damaged high tension cables and electric poles.  The local personnel of state-owned utility enterprises are working to restore the electricity supply by replacing the damaged electric poles and cables.  They were hopeful of restoring power by the end of the day while workmen engaged by forest and highway department were trying to clear the tree. Patrol police were seen traffic to smoothen traffic after the tree was removed from the road.
