Bangalore, Jul 19: It was a very joyous moment for the residents of Sarvajna Nagar in the city, especially for the downtrodden children of the area, as St Aloysius Degree College was inaugurated on Saturday July 19. Foundation stone for the new building of the college was also laid on the occasion, by Archbishop Bernard Moras of Bangalore.
In his welcome address, Fr Martin Antony stated, that this was a golden day in the history of St Aloysius Institutions which has a standing of over 120 years, under the leadership of Archbishop Bernard Moras who supports education as one of the most important things in life, irrespective of rich or poor.
The programme started with invocation dance by the students of St Aloysius High school students that provided an auspicious beginning to the function. The students danced beautifully to the rhythm of music, and this presentation was followed by lighting the lamp by the dignitaries.
Archbishop Bernard Moras hailed Bangalore as the Centre of excellence in education. He was happy to announce that Fr Martin Antony had taken utmost interest and worked hard towards realizing this dream. On behalf of the diocese, he thanked all the people who are a part of this project, for their wholehearted support and conveyed his hearty wishes to them. He specially thanked Dr H T Sangliana for donating 25 computers for the college labotaroty. Archbishop Moras stated that this institution mainly caters to the less fortunate children.
Dr Sangliana in his address congratulated the Diocese Board of Education for their successful endeavour. He advised the parents to identify the hidden talents of their children and guide them to hone their skills and also teach them to be tolerant, loving, peaceful citizens with a sense of mutual brotherhood. Unity of people, unity of mind, unity of purpose and unity of ideas will help build our society and any division in these matters can weaken our country into segments. He recommended social education to be taken up very seriously by the children as well as the elders. He wished good luck to the faculty members and all the members of the institutions so as to glorify God’s name.
Fr Terence Farias, Fr Jerome Rego, Fr V M Gregory, Fr Francis, Fr Solomon, Fr Arulappa and Fr Louis Vedakumar graced the dais with their presence.
Ranganath compered the programme, which concluded with vote of thanks by the principal Dr Lawrence and the National Anthem.
