Mangalore, Sep 10: State primary and secondary education minister Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri on Wednesday September 10 said that the prevailing Lord Macaulay's education system in India should be abandoned.

He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating one-day seminar for teachers at Swami Vivekananda Auditorium here organized by Ramakrishna Math, Mangaladevi.

Kageri said that the present education system is responsible to the chaos in the society and it can be contained only through old education system prevailed in the country in the pre-Independent era. He added, "Parents should send their children to the value-based education implemented schools instead of sending to branded schools. Etiquette is more important factor along with education."

Asking teachers to impart the values and teachings of Swami Vivekananda and Ramakrishna Paramhamsa to the children, he said that teachers are the assets of the nation who mould future citizens of the county.

Praising the activities of the Ramakrishna Math, minister asked the Math to work more to collect vox-populi related to value-based education to make the government to implement it easily. He also asked the DDPI C Chame Gowda to send the resolutions taken by the teachers in the three-day seminar.

Chame Gowda welcomed the gathering. MLA N Yogish Bhat, Swami Purnakamandji were also present. Dr Gururaj Karajgi, director, Academy for Creative Teaching, Bangalore delivered a lecture on 'Challenges of a teacher in 21st Century.'

People are surprised a BJP politician practices the politics of sour grapes. Kageri message will have takers in India as long as most Indians do not have access to a good education.

Just hip-hop into village schools run by the Government and see for yourselves the pathetic conditions for our rural children. Imagine classes being conducted without teachers. Mr Minister, don't duck the real issues facing the education of our children.

You are unworthy of even uttering the name of a great person like Swami Vivekananda. Is the CM tracking the actions of this self styled educational avtar! Or silently he too concurs.

We really need value based education. Almost all the schools give the value based education. But our bad luck, some people forget those values when they come out of schools. Kegeri should be made the principal to a school to be opened just for the trouble shooters, unemployed.

Mr.Khageri, have you heard a phrase that says"Donkey praises its' own tail". You have a nerve to talk about Etiquette. Teach that to your fellow BJP members and affiliates such as Bajarangis,VHP and rest of saffron clad. We know how to behave in society and every person is equal to each other as human. We do not organize Vandalism,City bundhs, killing of others in the name of Religion, burning or demolishing houses of worships. We attended branded schools and were taught to respect to other Humans and Nature.

You are minister of Karnataka state which promotes that all signs and banners should be in Kannada. Did you realize that the banners surrounded YOU are written in English. Oh Mr. Yeddy, you have appointed Physician to Law and order post, and less Educated person to High Knowledge Education Minister post. What a bungle up in 100 days.

Existing education system working fine. But we need to add 1 compuslory additional subject from 1st standard to College. The subject should be related to "Ethics, Patriotism, Corruption, Respect, Indian Values". This way in next generation we can try to root out some of the issues we are facing today

Please all the minority schools do organise a signature campaign and send a memorandum to the Governor of the State and to the president of India. These politicians have their children in branded schools, some of them studying abroad.

They do not want others to come up in lives, so take them back to stone age in the name of the religion and rule over them. Misleading the masses. I pity the people keeping their mouths shut.

LORD MACAULAY'S ADDRESS TO THE BRITISH PARLIAMENT 2 FEBRUARY, 1835 "I have traveled across the length and breadth of India and I have not seen one person who is a beggar, who is a thief. Such wealth I have seen in this country, such high moral values, people of such caliber, that I do not think we would ever conquer this country, unless we break the very backbone of this nation, which is her spiritual and cultural heritage, and, therefore, I propose that we replace her old and ancient education system, her culture, for if the Indians think that all that is foreign and English is good and greater than their own, they will lose their self esteem, their native culture and they will become what we want them, a truly dominated nation."

Nowadays polarizing society by dividing them on religious basis become a tool to gain power. This is not a healthy development a country like us which is garden of many religions, cast, creed, language etc. Let us pray to save our beloved country from fascist rulers.

If this is your agenda we very well know in which direction you are heading. If you consult with your peers you will know if you dig a hole to trap an elephant you will yourself one day get stuck in it.

Dont you realise you are polorizing the society. Parties like the BJP should be banned from politics - they can remain in the sidelines but not on a administrative level. This could lead to a domino effect god knows where it will stop.

Back to fundamentals, folks. What is the role of a minister? Should he or she impose ideology or is his or her role to better run the institutions. I think it is more the latter. However, if the system is fundamentally flawed, they are empowered more than the bureaucrats to fix the system. The last time I checked, the Indian education system is the envy of the world - it is cheap and it is generally good. If this were not the case, we would not have highly successful professionals in the most advanced nations, nor would we be attracting so many outsourced, high quality jobs requiring the products of our educational system.

So, as far as the quality related to the material aspects of education is concerned, we are doing fine. I think the good minister is rising above it all and commenting on the system with more of a philosophical and spiritual standpoint, stating that the western model of education in our country is at cross purposes with the the system that predated the British where it was more character building and proposed loftier goals of an educated individual. I would suggest that parents are in the best position to decide what is the best form of education for their children.

We are a unique country where all forms of education are available - be it along the lines of what was proposed by His Holiness Swami Vivekananda or private institutions based on the western model - such as those run by the convents or even those run by the Islamic institutions. The minister has no business proposing anything as drastic and fundamentally changing the system without debate or just cause. I would suggest that we have our choices, even he cannot change that and as far as our discussions via these blogs are concerned, may I suggest less cursing and more substance is the way - after all let us show that we are the well educated products of the system we so enthusiatically defend!

You guys want to enjoy all the previlage at the cost of the public fund and when it comes to the ordinary public you send wrong signals. I still cant understand on one side the education minister says that the system shold be abolished on the ohter side the CM belonging to the same party says that the govt. is gonna give more and more importance to the IT/BT sector if this is the case who's gonna work in IT/BT sectors after say about 20years as everyone will be educated in the pre-independence era syllabus. Will the outsiders come to work in India or will tere industries will be abolished ?

Good job Valerian Dalmaida and others in explaing the relevant details to the concenred minister. What a mess we ourselevs are at this point in 21st century. The goverment is trying to advocate for changes to please a small section of his party and voting population.

I am sure if the concerned minister understands the mess that he is creating or suggesting to people to implement the changes. Karnataka at state level has acheived a distiction all over the world as sucessful in implementing IT Revolution. this is primarly due to the current education system that we have and benefitted several millions of people who went through this educational system since independence. Here we are, Goverment is suggesting to go back pre-independence years to erase achivements and success in our education system. Looks like we all may need to do a letter writing campaign to the minister and his boss, the chief minsiter along with our DK in-charge minister. Can someone provide us mailing address for these minsters.

Each one of us will explain our frustations and outline posible consequences from these type of statements and suggetsed changes by the minster.

Your words sound as you want to jump for a sudden change, having no plans. It seems that you are a wrong person to this position. You should know that you have the responsibility of the people and their generations of Karnataka. If you are wrong, you will lead all of us to the same path. You should clarify how the present education system is responsible for the chaos in the soceity., and how going back to pre-independent era will solve this chaos.

Dear Mr. Kageri, It is not the present education system, but the present person holding the education portfolio has to be changed. Any Tom, Dick and Harry is given a ticket and he becomes a MLA under a brand of BJP and becomes a minister like you without knowing the abcd of governance. It is clear that you are biased and there is anger and animosity in you against Christians. You are drawing attention by these statements because you have nothing else to do or you dont know anything. At least learn from your Colleague Mr. Palemar, who is a product of present day system of education and a fine human being who respects all people.

You extended the retiring age by two not with the love of retiring teachers but there was no money in the exchequer and postponed the cash out flow. Otherwise, why should a Government deny the opportunity for the young teachers who are currently unemployed by extending the retiremnt age by two years. When the children want to draw attention from the parents they do some mischief and that is what you are doing now. People who are also parents know which system is good for their children and you need not tell.

To hide your inefficiency you are making these statements and creating a divide in the society and I dont think even the system that you have suggested tolerates you. I humbly request you, please do good for the people. Keep doing it quietly, there is still time, your name will be permanently entered into the history books, let all the people of Karnataka remember you as a good person. God Bless You.

Receiving education from under the banyan trees sounds much better. Don't be surprised if all institutions receive a new notice from the minister to plant banyan saplings, failing in which they would not receive government grants. Furthermore all schools may even receive a new Kageri sylabus from the next year.

The minister seems to be a very busy man these days trying to revamp our entire educational system. Swami Vivekananda preached tolerance and therefore the minister would be doing the world a great service if he could take his preachings to his colleagues who are today spreading only the message of hate, intolerance and destruction.
