Mangalore, Oct 10:
A modern vehicle parking complex is slated to come up in Hampankatta soon with the city corporation likely to take up construction work at the old service bus stand.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Ranganath Kini, the court ward corporator said a full-fledged, seven-storey, air-conditioned mall, would be built on the site by a private organization. The parking area would come up on the fifth and sixth floor of the building which would be operated on a ‘pay and park’ basis.

However, the city corporation has not yet invited applications for setting up of the parking complex from private organizations. Kini said, ‘This vehicle parking complex will be the first of its kind in the city. The parking system will be looked after by the city corporation which will gain Rs 40 crore in income from this project. The corporation is also planning to introduce the first ever interlock road at Arya Samaj Road and Sturrock Road. The entire area will be given a face-lift once the project is over.’

Other existing commercial establishments at the old service bus stand would be evicted and shifted to the mall complex, he added.  Kini opined that with the increase in number of vehicles and with many commercial establishments coming up on K S Rao Road, the new parking complex could go a long way in solving the parking problem in the area.

Design the building in such a way that buses plying towards Jyothi will have a stop there. There is no Bus Stop in Hampankatta in this route.

No doubt, it is a good idea, but please make sure that Mr.Pai vists a place like Dubai and see how shoping Malls and Parking buildings are made to accomodate the general public parking including the space has been let to business people who have invested in buying shops, people are ready to pay & Park provided there is sufficent space. Any how good luck to Mr.Pai for his best thoughts.

The entire plot should be used for the purpose of parking only. If a Mall comes in that plot, and only two floors are earmarked for parking, where will the vehicles coming to Mall will go for parking. It is foolishness if this idea of 2 floors is implemented. The MCC Commissioner and the DC should look into the matter before a decision is taken.

Thus goes the Irish saying: "Funny people get funny ideas!" Hope this is also not a funny idea but will materialise someday. The whole building should be a parking lot on 'pay & park' basis as in the USA

On the face of it looks like good news to relive the parking problem at Hampan-katta. But just 2 floors for parking, in a 7 storey building. That space will just go for the tenents of the building and thier customers. At the end of the day, if the building does comeup, the parking problem will just remain the same.

And to be frank with you all...there will be a improper PARKING FEE and this fee collecting fee people will be MALYALIS. Don't you believe ?. if you not..then go and see Bajpe airport outside. They can't even speak TULU and KANNADA. I was shocked to meet these kind of people couple of weeks back. I had to simply pay 35 Rs just to enter myself with maruthi parking to pick my darling. ALAS..our Mangalore never remaind as "TULUNAAD or "MALENAAD" instead it became "MALLUNAAD".

The parking mall is not a required need on the agenda, coz all the mall there has parking facility other than parking lots rather let the corporation have a hi tech mall with basement and super basement as parking facility which would suffice the need.

Finally its not the parking thats going to be built. Its some hefty rich man building a mall on public property free of cost and collecting extra for parking and definetely he needs two floors for the customers visiting the mall to park their vehicles. Thats great, appreciate this approach. Kick the ass of the person who has given this idea.

City is growing in such a rapid manner and you mentioned that only two floors are for the parking purpose reserved in the mall. Please do do this. Let the whole area be a central parking area for the mangalore city. People can park the vehicles and visit the local surroundings with other means. all the other parking places should be cleaned up and the roads be widened. Think of this. Also dont think of today, think what mangalore would be like in next 10 years.

We have a very narrow mind. We never think of tomorrow. Its high time. Otherwise even god cannot save you guys .

Two storey car parking is insufficient. It can accommodate not more than 200 cars. A study should be done what is teh car parking numbers needed on peak hour/ on peak season and only on that basis car parking numbers should be fixed.

Good news. This is the most important problem we are facing from years. At last we read one of the Corporators statement in the Daijiworld Network. Let Kini's words be reality in coming years.
