Mangalore, Nov 11: Election is the stage for a discussion of policy matters in a democratic country. But in India, elections serve as a stage for communal polarization. This is proving dangerous to the democracy of the nation, said Sitaram Yechury, politburo member, CPI (M).

Speaking at the Souharda Karnataka Rajyotsav organized by the CPI (M) on Monday November 10, he said that communalism has been used as a tool for political gains during elections and to consolidate the majority Hindu vote bank. Every time an election is due, tension is generated in various parts of the country. Even terror is used for political consolidation. In eight cases of recent bomb blasts, links have led to the Sangh Parivar organizations, Yechury informed.

Global recession will definitely affect the Indian economy in the coming days. Instead of thinking about recession, the whole country is pulled into communalism. Communalism has been distracting from the country’s basic problems, alleged Yechury.

He said that Leftists had always opposed the privatization of banks and the insurance sector, entry of foreign funds, and use of provident fund in stock markets. Therefore, the bills related to these issues are still pending in parliament. This has saved the savings and jobs of numerous Indians, he opined.

‘Everyone in the country has multiple identities and one should be proud of it. About 1,650 languages are thriving in the nation. Let us celebrate the diversity and concentrate our energy for a better India,’ Yechury exhorted.

Dr John Fernandes, head of Chair in Christianity, Mangalore University, S Ahmed Kunhi, former zilla panchayat president, Kasargod, and CPI (M) district secretary B Madhav, were present on the occasion. G N Nagaraj, state secretary, CPI (M), presided over the function.

CPI/M opposing anything come from USA as well as anything China says to oppose it... (3)It is well known communsist politicians recieving gifts from China. They once openly sided with China in Indo-China war debate.. (4)By the way, Nandigram incident exposed how communists will behave when things go out of their control . It happened in China, Russia..Same mindset. Hope that answers ur doubts

Totaly we agree with the statement that the communal polarity is there and is misused for political gains, but it dos'nt mean that communism is its solution. It is as if drink the poison to kill the worms in the stomach.

I wonder if India would be a better place if we did not have the present set of politicians leading us. Do we elect them to look into our needs or to destroy the social fabric of the nation. The citizens should understand this or we will end being like any African nation.

We have a lot to thank the Communists for being in the coalition at the Centre. Thanks to them the Union Govt was forced to go slow on privatisation of Banks, thus preventing Indian financial system getting sucked into the global financial crisis.
