SJEC College Day : Mabel Rebello Exhorts Students to Enhance Skills

Mangalore, Mar 20: “Students need to keep abreast in the technological world, which will help them open up themselves for a better future”, said Mabel Rebello, member, Rajya Sabha, at St Joseph Engineering College in Vamanjoor on Friday March 19, during the college day celebrations.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, she said that the youth have a better future in India, which is progressing in all fields including technology.
“So, the students have to enhance their skills during their studies by hard work and also get knowledge of everything happening in the world”, she said, adding that India is a young country where students of today can become masters in their fields by achieving their dreams.
“The students, through their skills and knowledge can make the country a super power in future”, said Rebello adding that now only a few are employed in the government sector while the others are in the private sector.
"So, the students, while studying, should not target government jobs but should try to excel wherever opportunity knocks”, she added.
Guest of honour, D K Jain, senior vice-president, Lanco Infratech, said that students have to concentrate on their studies and skills to face the challenges ahead in their future.
Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore and president of SJEC, presided over the function. Rebello and Jain honoured the achievers in various sports and games activities as well as toppers in academic studies by presenting trophies and certificates.
Fr Valerian D’Souza, secretary and director of SJEC, welcomed all. Prof Jayakar Hegde, principal in charge of the college, presented the annual report.
Fr Henry Mascarenhas, assistant director of the college, and Prof Eric Patravo, dean of the college, were also present.
Students presented cultural and musical programmes after the formal function.
