Mangalore, Jun 16: “The youths of Beary community have rich potential of being considered  as role models by the whole world. They should steadfastly preserve their rich culture, and take care not to get carried away by western culture. They should always respect and emulate their elders,” advised former education minister, B A Moidin. He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Boba-Belma’ cultural convention organized at Megha Plaza in Gurupur Kaikamba on Tuesday June 15, under the aegis of the city-based All India Beary Parishat.

“Enormous changes are being witnessed in every sphere, be it social, economic or other fields. This has given rise to an apprehension that the family bonds might get spoilt. Therefore, the need for such conventions, which uphold our culture and identify and honour the elders from the community, who have been guiding the society, is felt now more than ever,” he said. While expressing happiness at the fact that Beary community has not yet fallen prey to the practice of driving the aged parents to homes for the aged, he advised the community members to ensure that elders in the family are not left alone to fend for themselves, and to extend to them their love and respect.

Parishat president, B A Mohammed Hanif, presided. MLA, U T Khader, distributed identity cards to senior citizens. B A Moidin Bawa, chairman of Bawa Foundation, and Haji Palliyabba, owner of Megha Plaza, were present.

Working president of the Parishat, B M Mumtaz Ali, welcomed. Reception Committee president, S Abdul Majeed, delivered introductory address. General secretary, Aziz Haq, presented the programme. Abdul Khader Adma proposed vote of thanks.

In the first session held during the convention, leaders of the community, who lived in the past were remembered, and facilities the senior citizens are eligible for, were explained. In the second session, cultural heritage and literary contributions of Beary community were discussed.

Senior members of the community, who have carved out a place for themselves because of their achievements in various sectors, were honoured on the occasion. Valedictory function was organized under the presidentship of Mohammed Kunhi, founder of Shanti Publications. Founder president of the Parishat, J Hussain, Yousuf Bawa Belma, Mohammed Kujnatbail, J M Shahul Hamid and others were present.

A very innovative programme. "Bobas" and "Belamas" are the roots and stems of our magnificent Beary tree on which our dynamic and vibrant Beary " Kakas-Dadas " and our lovely " Monus-Molus" have blossomed. Their hard work, steadfastness and effection has surely played a very significant role in evolution of our community and in its development. Honouring them means honoring our very existence. On behalf of Bearys Cultural forum-Dubai, I congratulate Akhila Beary Sahithya Parishath and its office bearers for conducting such a heartwarming and pleasant event.-M.E.Moolur

    MR SHETTY MLORE/DUBAI

HERE MR B A MOIDEEN STRESSED AND ADVISED BEARY YOUTH NOT CARRIED AWAY BY ADAPTING WESTERN CULUTRE. WHAT HE MEAN EXACTLY IS THE CONVENTION NAME ITSELF SAYS boba-belama (AJJA-AJJI) UNLIKE WE SEE IN WESTERN CULTURE, "BEARY COMMUNITY NOT YET FALLEN PREY TO THE PRACTICE OF DRIVING THE AGED PARENTS TO THE HOMES FOR THE AGED.

UNDER THE PREVAILING CICUMSTANCES BEARY'S LIFESTYLE CHANGED A LOT AND BEARYS PREFERING FOR NUCLEAR FAMILY,THE AGED PARENT'S FUTURE IS HANG IN BALANCE.ANYWAY THAT SITUATION IS NOT YET ARRIVED AND COMMUNITY LEADERS REMINDING YOUTHS TO UPHOLD CULTURAL VALUES OF THEIR PREDECESSOR.
MR Shetty here community leaders reminding their folks the goodness of culture what their ancesstor left for them BUT MUTALIK PROPAGATING FORCED CULTURE OF HIS OWN DEFENITION TO DIFFERENT CULTURED COMMUNITIES!THERE DIFFERENCE LIES!!

In olden days moulood, ratheeb, sunnath manghila, thaala, appattha mangheela likewise several occassion relatives and friends used to gather and enjoy. Now a days it is bidah, shirk, haraam... etc..etc... But several Beary's associations are trying to retain their identity and community culture. Let us try to educate our children about beary's culture and implement some of them at least.

BEARY CULTURE???Is beary culture is seperate from their religion or above their religion? Before being a beary you must become a true Muslim who follow the Holy Qur'an and the teachings of your prophet. If your culture does'nt go against the these teachings, then there is no harm in following any culture wheather it is western or beary. As an example taking dowry while marry,if it is your culture then you are against the true culture.

Our Beary community is slowly loosing its rich culture. Community gatherings are needed to remind our generations to remember our culture. May be future generations will forget our elders cultural dresses and appearance such as white mundu (lungi), white long sleeve shirt, white cap and white bear. Nowadays two types of dress codes which is male and female dress..

Belama (grand mother) appearance also very respective. They wore saree and kupaya. One dozen ear rings (alikhat), urku, Kunipu, arjana all disappeared. Eid day childrens, grand childrens, families and relatives are visiting to greet each other but this culture also decreasing. We have to preserve our culture and tradition for our next generations. TV serials and reality shows are severely affected our culture. More gatherings, sammelana’s, beary cultural programmes will help us to remember our tradition.
