Mangalore, Jun 16: “The youths of Beary community have rich potential of being considered as role models by the whole world. They should steadfastly preserve their rich culture, and take care not to get carried away by western culture. They should always respect and emulate their elders,” advised former education minister, B A Moidin. He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Boba-Belma’ cultural convention organized at Megha Plaza in Gurupur Kaikamba on Tuesday June 15, under the aegis of the city-based All India Beary Parishat.
“Enormous changes are being witnessed in every sphere, be it social, economic or other fields. This has given rise to an apprehension that the family bonds might get spoilt. Therefore, the need for such conventions, which uphold our culture and identify and honour the elders from the community, who have been guiding the society, is felt now more than ever,” he said. While expressing happiness at the fact that Beary community has not yet fallen prey to the practice of driving the aged parents to homes for the aged, he advised the community members to ensure that elders in the family are not left alone to fend for themselves, and to extend to them their love and respect.
Parishat president, B A Mohammed Hanif, presided. MLA, U T Khader, distributed identity cards to senior citizens. B A Moidin Bawa, chairman of Bawa Foundation, and Haji Palliyabba, owner of Megha Plaza, were present.
