Monthi Fest: St Peter the Apostle Catholic Mission Church, Melbourne, Australia

Melbourne, Sep 16: Mangaloreans residing in Melbourne gathered at St Peter the Apostle Catholic Mission Church, Hoppers Crossing to celebrate Monthi Fest on Sunday Septemebr 12.
As per the traditional practice the whole congregation and the vibrant children with flower baskets proceeded to the statue of Mother Mary and offered the flowers with the accompaniment of hymns (Sokkad sangata melya and Moriyek hogolsiya). Then there was a procession to the church, where the holy mass was offered by Fr Prakash Cutinha, a priest from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Ringwood. Fr Prakash, in his homily, preached that Mother Mary was chosen for a particular mission. We too are called for a mission. We have the responsibility to fulfil this mission as Mary did. The homily was well appreciated by all.
The choir was led by Br Prakash Menezes SVD and Valerian Menezes. Clemet Lobo was the musician. The hymns were melodious and laudable. During the offertory, as a symbol of new harvest, fresh fruits and vegetables were offered.
After the mass all people gathered for the cultural meal at the residence of Mr & Mrs Philomena Richard Fernandes.
After the grace, all shared the meal wherein each dish was prepared by individual families who were gathered for the occasion. The traditional “Vorn” and “Pathrode” added to the delicacy of the food. The sugarcanes, which were provided by Fredrick Quadros, were distributed to the children.
The Marian quiz was conducted by Br Prakash SVD as the Quiz Master and assisted by Fr Prakash.
The gathering enthusiastically participated for which they were honoured with prizes. This was followed by Marian Housie game conducted by Stephen D’Souza in an entertaining way.
The celebration was concluded with nostalgic memories of Mangalore with the songs of late Wilfy Rebimbus sung by Mr & Mrs Sandria Manoj D’Silva which elated every ones spirit.
The whole programme was organised under the leadership of Mr & Mrs Stany Martis, Mr & Mrs Valerian Menezes, Mr & Mrs Jossy Fernandes and Mr & Mrs Elias Mascarenhas.
