Bantwal, Oct 28: Eighty one per cent votes were cast for the by-elections for a vacant seat of Devashyapadur ward in Navoor gram panchayat. Out of 1070 voters, 872 of them cast their vote.

There was a direct contest between Congress supported member Sumitra Mohan and BJP candidate Appy. The elections were held for the seat that became vacant following the death of Congress supported member Jyothi.

Out of 17 seats in Navoor gram panchayat, there were 10 Congress supported members and seven BJP supported members. Out of them a Congress supported member joined BJP and another Congress member died. Therefore, there were eight members each in both the Congress and the BJP.
