Puttur: 18-year-old sexual harassment case – Accused surrenders, sent to judicial custody

Puttur, Nov 3: Accused in a case of sexual harassment of a married woman, that occurred 18 years ago, surrendered to the police. Court sent him to judicial custody.

A case was filed in August 29, 2004 in Uppinangady police station, in which it was accused that Girish, son of Dharmanna, a resident near Petrol pump of 34th Nekkilady village, had entered the house of a married woman of Karaya, along with his accomplice Hitesh and sexually assaulted the woman.

Though the case was under inquiry in the court, Girish had absconded and went overseas. Now he surrendered to sixth additional district court of Mangaluru, which sent him to judicial custody.

Another accused Hitesh, who was also absconding was arrested in 2018 by the police. He was subsequently acquitted by the court. However, the prosecution has questioned the verdict and submitted an appeal in high court, which is under inquiry.
