Mangaluru, Nov 3: African Swine flu has been reported in one of the pig rearing centres in Kelrai of Nerumarga village near here.

Proper action has been taken to control this disease under the National Center for Disease Control.

The administration has declared the one kilometer zone surrounding the piggery as the infected zone and as a surveillance zone within a 10-kilometer radius of the piggery. The deceased pigs have been directed to be scientifically slaughtered and an anti-infection spray to be used. Boards have been displayed that the public should not visit the spot and anti -infection spray should be used.

The administration has advised the public not to visit the area nor buy meat or pigs from unknown persons.

The administration has also said the pig rearing centre should be washed in hot water and an anti-infection solution should be sprayed. African swine flu is unlikely to spread to humans from pigs or by consuming porks. Hence, the general public need not panic, the district administration authorities have said in a release.

People who rear pigs should also take precautionary measures, informed cattle diseases management committee president Ravikumar M R.
