Udupi: Man makes abortive bid to rob woman's mangalasutra, locals rescue

Udupi, Nov 3:  The police have registered a case against a person under IPC Section 393 for attempting to rob a mangalasutra from a fisherwoman at around 6.30 am on Thursday, November 3.

It is said that the complainant is Gulabi (72), is a resident of Sunplask, Thottam, Vadabhandeshwara in Kodavoor Village.


The incident happened while the victim was reportedly walking from a dry fish center nearer to the Malpe port to buy raw fish.

A person came close to the woman, threw chilli powder and attempted to rob her mangalasutra. While the woman raised an alarm locals rushed to her rescue to the spot and caught the accused.

The accused is identified as Prabhakar (47), a resident of Gujarabettu.

A case was registered at Malpe police station.
