Bengaluru, Nov 9: The education department has withdrawn the controversial circular to compulsorily bring college students for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's programme in Bengaluru on November 11.

The education department had ordered the deputy director of Pre-University Education Department, Bengaluru rural to bring a large number of students from aided and unaided pre-university colleges to participate in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's programme in Bengaluru scheduled for November 11.

Buses were also fixed and nodal officers were appointed for the buses to bring the students which were scheduled to leave from designated colleges. Responsibility of bringing the students was put on the principals of the colleges.

The circular met with widespread opposition which prompted the DDPU to withdraw the order.

Leader of Opposition in Assembly Siddaramaiah said the government is trying to exploit the students which is condemnable.

Former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy said what the need for such an order was and then later withdraw it. "Why the students should be brought to listen to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech in the hot sun?" he asked.

Minister of School Education and Literacy B C Nagesh said he had ordered the DDPU to withdraw the circular adding that he had directed the principal secretary to take suitable action against the officials responsible for such a circular.
