Bantwal, Nov 12: A two-day state level karate competitions on November 12 and 13 is being held by Sparsha Kala, Bantwal under the aegis of Yamoto Shotokan Karate Association Mangaluru, Rotary club Loretto Hills, Rotary club Siddakatte Falguni, Rotary club B C Road city, Rotary club Bantwal and Rotary club Modankap.
Mangaluru MLA U T Khader who inaugurated the competitions said that the organizers have become an example to others by providing the children an opportunity to showcase their talents by means of the competitions.
Bantwal MLA Rajesh Naik said while this is a competitive sport for senior sportspersons, it is a platform for children to learn the sport.
Former minister B Ramanath Rai said sport is essential for a healthy body. Besides that, it is inevitable for self-defence, he said.
Siddakatte Poonja temple’s Krishna Prasad Acharya, Fr Valerian D’Souza, Keonics president Harikrishna Bantwal, municipal council vice president Jacinta D’Souza, former district panchayat member Chandraprakash Shetty Tumbe, Bantwal block president Baby Kunder, Municipal council member Hariprasad, Janajaruthi Vedike president Ronald D’Souza, Rotary club honorary president Raghavendra Bhat, Rotarians Sathish, Vijaya Fernandes, president Koshi Shaju, Mulavana treasurer Renny Jerald Fernandes, joint secretary Sannayi Ashok Acharya and Rotary club leaders and members were present.
More than 1,500 karate sportspersons took part. Competitions were held in kata and kumite.
