Mangaluru Jan 30: Father of Fazil, Umar Farooq filed a complaint with police commissioner N Shashi Kumar against VHP leader Sharan Pumpwell for his statement on his son’s murder at Shaurya Yathra.

Fazil was brutally murdered at Surathkal on July 28 last year and eight accused was arrested in the crime. On the eve of Shaurya Yathra, VHP leader Sharan Pumpwell delivered controversial remarks defending the murder of Fazil which he stated was committed in retaliation to murder of Praveen Nettaru, a BJP youth leader.

Umar Farooq also urged the police commissioner to arrest Sharan Pumpwell and probe into the case.

Speaking to the media, Umar Farooq said, "For six months I have been relentlessly asking who is behind the murder. But after listening to the Tumakuru speech by Sharan Pumpwell, I came to know who is behind the murder. Eight people killing one person is not bravery (shaurya). It is cowardice."

"Hindutva groups are just money extortioners, Hindus are always good. Fazil was innocent and involved with any group or association. I came to know that Sharan Pumpwell is the conspirator after listening to his speech," alleged Umar.

He openly challenged Sharan Pumpwell to confront him. "Do not drag your (Sharan Pumpwell) religion into this and create rift between Hindus and Muslims. You don't even deserve to call yourself a Hindu," Umar Farooq said, terming Sharan Pumpwell a Hindutva gangster and an extortionist.
