Mangaluru, Feb 7: "I would like to question Dakshina Kannada minister in-charge Sunil Kumar what was the reason to reduce the grants for Abbakka Utsava," said Mahila Congress leader Mamatha Gatty

Addressing the media here on Tuesday, February 7, she said, "Rani Abbakka was one of freedom fighters who fought against the Portuguese. She is the symbol of self-esteem for the women of this world. Every year we celebrate Abbakka Utsava but this year under the rule of BJP governent the grants for Abbaka Utsava was reduced. This is an insult to Rani Abbakka and the women of the state."

"Shoba Karandlaje announced on the day of Abbaka Utsava at Ullal the construction of Abbakka Theme Park. We suggest they construct a library in that theme park about the history of Rani Abbakka which will educate people.

During the Siddaramaiah rule, Rs 8 crore grants were passed for the construction of Abbakka Bhavana. Till today those amounts are stuck in the department of Kannada and Culture. Why theconstruction is not started in these 5 years? In the final budget they have to take a decision on the Abbakka Bhavana," she said.

District women Congress leaders Appi, Chandrakala Jogi, Sureka Chandrahas, Shanthala Gatty and others were present.
