Bantwal, Feb 8: “The water level in Thumbe vented dam has remained 6 metres for the last few months and there will be no scarcity of drinking water for people of Mangaluru during the next two months,” said Mangaluru corporation mayor Jayananda Anchan.
Speaking at the hall programme after offering pooja to Gangadevi near the dam and touring the dam besides offering Bagina on Wednesday afternoon, he said water is most essential substance among the basic needs of people. “Mangaluru is a place where there is no scarcity of water. Water was less in Mangaluru during May last year. As the monsoon started early, the Nethravathi river is full,” he said.
Chief whip Premananda Shetty wished that water may flow to the river, fill the vented dam and flow out so that there may be no problems for supply of drinking water in the city during the coming summer.
City project and progress standing committee’s Rathila Kava, tax disposal finance standing committee’s Kishore Kothary, public health, education and social justice committee’s Hemalatha Salian, account department’s Nayana Kotian, opposition party leader Navin R D’ Souza, former mayor Shashidhar Hegde, Lancy Pinto, Vedavati and Thumbe panchayat president Pravin B Thumbe were present.
