Kundapur, Feb 11: Accusation by the opposition party members that discriminatory policy is followed in Saligrama Town Panchayat and no grant is given to them is far from truth, said Sulatha S Hegde, president of Saligrama town panchayat.

Hegde spoke at a press conference that was held on the evening of Friday at Saligrama.

Hegde further said, “When the grant is released from the government the same is presented in the council meeting and it is distributed equally among all members. Even special grant of MLA, development and natural calamity funds are also distributed according to the guidance of MLA.

“While electing standing committee, though ruling party members were there, opposition is not kept aside and Ravindra Kamath is elected as member twice. Work which Ravindra Kamath had mentioned was taken up by calling tender. But as there was objection from public the same was stopped.

“The chief officer and engineer have inspected the spot and also looked into the appeal. Now the road is dug leaving 40 meter of road after the concrete end. As the public objected, the work was stopped and it was decided to restart the work after getting the same discussed with the MLA. The work is not diverted anywhere else.

“Waste is collected through four auto tippers under the limits of town panchayat. No grant is distributed to nominated members of Saligrama town panchayat.

“It is a lie that Saligrama town panchayat is not functioning properly. MLA has given more than Rs 26 lac grant to us. Parampalli bridge at a cost of Rs six crore and Thodkattu bridge at a cost of Rs 5.5 crore in under construction. In addition, bridge work near Gundmi at a cost of Rs 13.50 crore is already over,” Hegde said.

Anusuya Anandarama, Raju Poojary Karkada, Sanjeeva Devadiga, Bhaskara Bangera, Sukanya Shetty, Girija, nominated members Karunakara, Vasanta Kanchan, Surendra and Madhava were present.
