Udupi, Feb 11: Leaders of Billawa community tried to gherao state level Yakshagana convention that is being held at MGM College grounds in the city.

Heavy police presence is there on the spot where the convention is going on.

Police prevented the protesters at a distance of 150 meters from the convention grounds from entering the venue.

Protesters raised slogans against Rohit Chakratheertha. It is alleged that Chakratheertha showed disrespect to Brahmashree Narayana Guru. A lesson on Narayana Guru was dropped from the text books of 10th standard on the recommendation of Rohith Chakratheertha. Billawa leaders accuse him for being the reason for showing dishonour to Narayana Guru.
