Kundapur, Feb 11: The rare and traditional Abhari festival was celebrated here at the historic Maharaja Swami temple on February 11.

The festival in the holy abode of the Sri Varaha deity has been celebrated once in three years here since ancient times for all the workers particularly for the safety of fishermen. The current celebrations were held by Abhari samithi – Nada Hadavu Senapur and Maharaja Swamy Varaha temple.

Chandika Homa, Vishnu Havana, Rudrabhisheka to Gangadhar deity and other rituals were held. Pooja was held for the heap of rice. It was followed by Anna Santarpane.

Religious rituals were held under the leadership of Vedamurthy Keshanananda. Temple managing committee president Sathish M Nayak Nada, Abhari festival committee president Narashimha Poojary Padukone, Ramayya Hebbar, Gururaja Shetty, Subrahmanya Achar, Lakshman Poojary, Sathish , Prakash Kanchan, Ganesh, Ramesh, Santhosh Poojary, Nagesh Rao, Anita R K, priests Narasimha Adiga, Nagendra Adiga, villagers of Nada, Maravanthe and Trasi were present.
