Udupi, Feb 13: “Collective efforts are needed to bring down the number of deaths in the sea region of the district to zero,” said deputy commissioner Kurma Rao M.

He was speaking after inaugurating the coastal security training institute at the Malpe coast guard police office here today.   

“Coast guard police, fisheries department, fishermen and all the local organisations need to work together.  There is an increasing number of tourist arrivals in the district. It is necessary to provide all the training to the coast guard police to rescue the tourists and fishermen going to beaches and fishing when they face any dangers. Detailed studies should be conducted about all the beaches in the district and the safety measures that should be undertaken during emergency situations,” he said.

“Coast guard police and staff should obtain continuous training to face all the challenges that they may face due to the changing conditions,” he said.

Coast guard SP and coastal security training institute principal Abdul Ahad said that police staff are being trained already for the security of land and air and the security of the state will be possible in three divisions through coastal security training. The selected staff of the coastal security police are being provided two weeks of training. The navy, coast guard and BSF navy staff will be providing the training which will be a milestone in the history of coast guard police,” he said.

Mangaluru’s internal security division SP Dr A N Prakash Gowda said that the internal security of the state functions well in the coordination of the governments at the Centre and the state.

Udupi district SP Akshay Hakay Machindra said that an increasing number of illegal activities are being conducted through the sea these days and the police department requires continuous training of modern technology.
