Mangaluru, Feb 15: The Ambedkar Pule Vidyarthi Sangha of the science department, Mangalore University in Konaje held protests in front of the statue of the founder of Indian constitution on Wednesday against the alleged derogatory comments made against him at Bengaluru Jain university.

President of the sangha, Mohan Kumar said that strict legal action should be taken against the insult to Dr Ambedkar, scheduled caste, backward class and backward tribe by the Jain University students.

The centre for management studies department students of Jain University, Bengaluru had allegedly insulted the doyen of social equality and SC/ST community by addressing Dr B R Ambedkar as Beer Ambedkar and pun splitting the word Dalit as the-lit in the skit held as part of Yuvajanotsava celebrations of the department. The protesters said that the video of the audience laughing at such statements has gone viral.

The protesters demanded investigations and legal action on the team involved under SC ST Act 1989 section 3(1)(X) or 3(1) ( r) and IPC sections 153, 153(A), 195, 499, 500, 503, 504 and 506.

Vice president of the sangha Avinash Kamle, Vijay Kumar, Govind, Suresh and others were present.

A protest rally was held from the main entrance of Mangalore University till the management office. The students handed over a memorandum to university registrar Kishore Kumar. It was also forwarded to the state governor, chief minister, minister of higher education and inspector general of police.
